Impact on Afghanistan

In 1996,an Islamic extremist group called the Taliban took over Afghanistan. When they took over, women couldn't gooutside, see a doctor alone, and were forced to wear a burqa, which was torture. People couldn't read books. Nobody could look at photos, nor were people allowed to hear and dance to the sound of music. Nobody had the right of opinion and expression. Practicing any religion you wanted was illegal, nomatter how hard they fought against the oppression. After the 9/11 attacks, the Americans overthrew the Taliban. Throughout the war, there were many bombs and rockets from the Americans, followed by many guns firing up into the air from the Taliban. Finally, Afghanistan transitioned into a democracy after the Taliban was overthrown. In the first Afghanistan election,a man named Karzai was elected as president, but people were disappointed of how he ran the government. Some even thought the Taliban would have been better than him. People would even go to them for help instead. But alas, people have still gained better education, infrastructure, and a lot more civil rights from foreign aid ever since the Taliban lost most of its power that it previously enjoyed. Regardless of all this, there still lies many problems. Crime is still dominant throughout the war-torn and devastated country, that may sadly never get back up on its feet (Darcy).
