The Taliban gained popularity in Afghanistan by their ability to weed out corruption, and Islamic law is the basis on which they govern their people. Their philosophy is to eliminate western ideas. Such ideas include treating women equally, having access to media, and listening to music. People in their rule are controlled strictly, and if they are caught out of line, they will be severely punished.
